Early Work
AQI Tree | Fish Symphony | UX Design
uuUCHow it works
AQI Tree is an interactive installation that visualises real-time air quality data through a colour-changing sculptural tree.
The work translates invisible environmental data into a physical, immediate public signal
AQI Value
• Real-time air quality data is collected via air quality sensors
• Data is processed using Arduino
• LED lights embedded in the tree change colour based on AQI levels
• Colour states correspond to official AQI categories
0-50 51-100 101-150 151-200 201-300 301-500
Testing & Outcome
• Tested in indoor environments
(studio /classroom)
• Tested in outdoor urban spaces
(street / metro / park)
• Different AQI readings result in visibly different colour responses
The prototype successfully demonstrates the core interaction and data-to-visual logic of the system.
Future iterations could focus on durability and large-scale public deployment.
